Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – In a distressing event that has captured the attention of the local community, a newborn baby boy was discovered abandoned in a bushy area along Khami Road in Bulawayo on January 5, 2025.

The infant was found by a 40-year-old man who was in the area collecting firewood. The man, upon hearing the cries of a baby, investigated and uncovered a healthy newborn boy wrapped in blue denim jeans, with his umbilical cord still attached.

Assistant Inspector Msebele, the Press and Public Relations Officer for Bulawayo Province, confirmed the incident, stating, “The baby boy was then taken to Mpilo Hospital; no arrest has been made.”

This alarming discovery has prompted the police to issue an urgent appeal to the public for any information that could lead to identifying and arresting the individual responsible for this act of child abandonment.

Assistant Inspector Msebele emphasized the need for community vigilance and support, saying, “We urge anyone with information to come forward.” The incident has sparked a broader dialogue about the availability of support for young mothers in crisis situations.

Highlighting the societal implications, Msebele added, “The young generation is urged to seek counseling from elders and church leaders before making such hasty decisions. And parents should support their children wherever possible to avoid such incidents.”

The incident underscores a critical issue within the community, calling for increased awareness and preventive measures. The police are actively seeking information and encourage anyone with knowledge of the event to contact them immediately.
