In a remarkable display of resilience and capability, students with disabilities in Zimbabwe have achieved a 95% pass rate in the November 2024 Advanced Level examinations, according to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC).
Out of the 40 special needs candidates who participated, 38 who sat for two or more subjects surpassed expectations, showcasing the success of inclusive education practices through accommodations like enlarged print, Braille, and administrative adjustments tailored to their needs.
The overall pass rate for all candidates remained steady at 94.58%, closely mirroring last year’s 94.60%. Within this broader context, female students notably excelled with a 95.94% pass rate, compared to 92.05% for their male counterparts, highlighting a gender performance gap.
This year’s results not only reflect educational consistency but also shine a light on the transformative power of inclusivity in education. The achievements of students with disabilities underscore the potential that lies within every student when provided with the right tools and environment to succeed.
Candidates can access their results via the ZIMSEC online portal for five days following the announcement, with physical copies available for collection by examination center heads from January 13, 2025, at ZIMSEC regional offices.
This success story of students with disabilities in the 2024 A-Level exams serves as a beacon for further investment in inclusive education, affirming that every student, regardless of their physical or sensory abilities, can achieve academic excellence with proper support.
