The Lupane community is mourning the sudden loss of Casuel “Cas” Moyo, a revered human rights activist who passed away on Monday evening at the age of 56. Known for his tireless advocacy for democracy and justice, Moyo’s death has left a profound void in Zimbabwe’s human rights movement.

Born in 1967 in Mzola ward, Lupane District, Moyo began his journey at Mzola Primary School and later attended Jotsholo Secondary School. After completing his Ordinary Level education, he worked briefly as a cashier at the Kusile Rural District Council (KRDC) before dedicating his life to civil society activism.

Moyo joined the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) before it became a political party and took on key roles in organizations like the Zimbabwe Civic Education Trust (ZIMCET) and the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP). He also served as a Zimrights activist, Logistics Officer for the Bulawayo Agenda Lupane Chapter, and a Long Term Monitor and Election Observer Supervisor since 2005, ensuring free and fair elections in Zimbabwe.

Thulisani Nkomo, a Proportional Representation councilor for Kusile Rural District Council (KRDC), shared her grief, stating, “We have lost a true champion of human rights. Cas was not only a mentor but a friend to many of us. His dedication to our cause was unwavering, and his absence will be felt deeply.”

Malvern Daka, a Matabeleland North provincial representative for ZimRights, added, “Cas was a pillar of strength in our fight for human rights. His unwavering commitment inspired many, and his loss is a significant blow to our movement.”

Majaha Ncube, a fellow activist from Tsholotsho, emphasized Moyo’s impact, saying, “Cas was a beacon of hope for many. His work inspired countless individuals to stand up for their rights and seek justice. We must continue his legacy by fighting for the values he represented.”

Themba Chiveya, the National Vice Chairperson, announced Moyo’s passing to Zimrights members, urging them to honor his memory by continuing the fight for justice and democracy.

Casuel Moyo’s legacy as a champion of human rights and democracy will endure, inspiring future generations to uphold the values he dedicated his life to.
