Earlier in the week, the 2025 Southern Africa-U.S. Exchange Alumni Summit was held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, uniting global participants to tackle climate change and food insecurity through sustainable farming.
The event focused on empowering smallholder farmers, sharing innovative practices, and fostering international collaboration to address pressing environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Key discussions revolved around financing, entrepreneurship, and sustainable agriculture, with a strong emphasis on food security. Panelists like Zimbabwe’s Terry Maphosa urged embracing African culture and involving youth in farming to preserve indigenous crops and culinary heritage.
Mrs. Lipuo from Lesotho highlighted the need for reliable water sources, organic farming, and traditional methods to produce nutrient-rich, climate-resilient crops.
The summit aimed to create actionable solutions by combining traditional knowledge with modern technology, fostering regional and global partnerships to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable future for agriculture.
