Hwange duo sentenced to 25 years for murder and arson of 89-year-old

Hwange, Zimbabwe – In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves through the community, two men from Hwange have been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the brutal murder of an 89-year-old man, Sibusisiwe Dube, and the subsequent burning of his body.

The High Court in Hwange delivered the verdict yesterday, following a harrowing trial that revealed the gruesome details of the crime.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on the evening of April 1, 2024, at Maphosa Business Centre. Events Ncube (31) and Keylop Ncube (22) were drinking beer at the center alongside the victim, Sibusisiwe Dube, who was accompanied by Tapson Munsaka.

At approximately 7:00 PM, Dube left the business center, unaware that the two accused would follow him. In a horrifying turn of events, the duo attacked the elderly man with an axe, striking him on the head. They then transported his lifeless body to his home using a scotch cart. In a further act of brutality, the perpetrators placed Dube’s body in a kitchen hut and set it ablaze. The following morning, the charred remains of the 89-year-old grandfather were discovered, burnt beyond recognition.

The High Court handed down a 25-year prison sentence to both Events Ncube and Keylop Ncube for their heinous actions. The court emphasized the gravity of the crime, which involved not only the murder of an elderly man but also the desecration of his body through arson.

The case has sparked outrage in Hwange, with many residents expressing shock and sadness over the senseless violence. Community leaders have called for increased vigilance and stronger measures to address alcohol-related crimes, which have been on the rise in the area.

This tragic story underscores the need for continued efforts to combat crime and protect vulnerable members of society.
