GWANDA – A Gwanda man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for murdering his wife during a violent argument over money. Fedwell Moyo, 42, killed his 27-year-old wife, Da Msipa, then buried her body in their maize field with the help of their unsuspecting daughter.
The couple, from Enyandeni Village, had gone to Vumbachikwe Mine on February 28, 2023, to sell maize and sweet reeds. When they returned, they argued over how to spend the earnings—Moyo wanted to pay school fees, while Msipa planned to start a business. The fight turned deadly when Moyo struck her with a stone, then beat her with a log.
After hiding her body, Moyo confessed to a villager, Livious Tshaka, on March 12, leading to his arrest. Authorities confirmed he was convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years.
The case highlights Zimbabwe’s ongoing struggle with domestic violence. Police urge the public to report abuse before disputes turn fatal.
