The Christian Youth Volunteers Association Trust (CYVAT) has donated a variety of games to all primary and secondary schools in Lupane.
The initiative is intended to encourage learners to spend less time on social media by engaging in intellectual activities and interacting with their peers.
Speaking to Matabeleland Pulse, CYVAT official Meck Sibanda said, “We believe that games can play a significant role in reducing the frequency of social media usage among learners. By providing them with alternative forms of entertainment, we hope to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and social interaction.”
The donation includes board games such as chess, number puzzles, and other recreational materials. Sibanda added, “Our goal is to ensure that learners have access to a wide range of activities that can help them develop their skills and build their confidence. We believe that this initiative will have a positive impact on their overall well-being.”
Sibanda also highlighted concerns about excessive social media use. “Social media can be a significant distraction for learners, and excessive usage can lead to a decline in academic performance. By providing them with alternative forms of entertainment, we hope to mitigate this problem and promote a healthier lifestyle,” he said.
Learners and teachers welcomed the donation. One learner, who requested anonymity said, “I am m excited to play the new games that CYVAT has donated. It is a great way to take a break from social media and have fun with my friends.”
A teacher at one of the beneficiary schools, who also wished to remain anonymous, said, “This is a wonderful initiative that will help our learners develop their social skills and build their confidence. We are grateful to CYVAT for their generosity and commitment to promoting the well-being of our learners.”
CYVAT has been working with local schools and communities to support youth development in Lupane. Sibanda noted, “We’re committed to supporting the development of young people in Lupane, and we believe that this initiative will have a positive impact on their lives.”
