The Debonairs Wheels Campaign has donated five wheelchairs to people with disabilities in Bulawayo, as part of efforts to improve mobility and access to assistive devices.
The wheelchairs were sourced with assistance from members of the Zimbabwean diaspora, reflecting the involvement of international networks in supporting local initiatives.
Founder and disability rights advocate Tsepang T. Nare expressed gratitude to members of the Zimbabwean diaspora for their support, noting that their contribution highlights the significance of engaging Zimbabweans living abroad in addressing local challenges.
“This is very crucial for us. We are grateful to the Zimbabwe diaspora community for their support. It shows the benefits that come with linking and networking with the diaspora community in addressing perennial challenges faced by persons with disabilities,” Nare said.
The campaign, established five years ago, has distributed a total of 25 wheelchairs to date. According to Nare, demand for mobility aids remains high, with many families unable to afford such equipment.
He noted that ongoing collaboration with partners, including those in the diaspora, will be important for the continuation of the initiative.
The recent donation is expected to assist recipients in carrying out daily activities and contributes to broader efforts to promote support systems for people with disabilities.
