The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced a new national initiative aimed at promoting and rewarding academic excellence across Zimbabwe’s education system.

In a statement posted on X, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo said the programme will recognise the top 10 best-performing schools in each province, based on their 2025 pass rates at Grade 7, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level.

“I am pleased to announce a new national initiative aimed at promoting and rewarding academic excellence across our education system,” said Minister Moyo.

He said the initiative seeks to celebrate schools that consistently demonstrate strong academic performance while also supporting the holistic development of learners.

“This recognition is a celebration of high performing schools that have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement and the holistic development of learners in the provision of equitable, inclusive and quality education in line with SDG 4,” he said.

In addition to provincial recognition, the Ministry will also identify and reward the top five best-performing schools nationally in both Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) and Cambridge examinations.

“We’ll also identify the top five best performing schools in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council and Cambridge examinations and reward them accordingly on 20 March 2026,” Minister Moyo said.

He added that the recognised institutions will act as role models for other schools across the country.

“Such schools will serve as beacons of excellence and inspiration for others across the entire country, setting a benchmark for quality education and academic performance,” he said.

Minister Moyo also called on stakeholders to support the initiative through various forms of assistance.

“I extend a heartfelt invitation to all individuals, well-wishers, corporates and development partners who wish to support this noble initiative,” he said, adding that “sponsorships, awards, grants and any other forms of assistance” are welcome to motivate teachers and school heads.

He said interested stakeholders may contact the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education head office through official communication channels.
