A 21-year-old self-proclaimed prophet, Zireva Solomon of Gwabalanda, Bulawayo, has been arrested following allegations of sexual assault against a 19-year-old woman. The incident occurred during a supposed spiritual cleansing ceremony, raising concerns about the exploitation of faith and the safety of individuals seeking religious guidance.

According to Inspector Abednico Ncube, the Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, the victim visited Solomon’s residence on October 10th to deliver a white cloth for cleansing purposes. Tragically, the victim’s trust was betrayed upon arrival. Solomon led the woman to his shrine, prayed for her, and then instructed her to lie down on the cloth with her eyes closed. This vulnerable position was allegedly exploited by Solomon, who is accused of assaulting the victim twice without her consent.

The traumatized woman reported the incident to the police on October 21st, leading to Solomon’s arrest. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who manipulate faith for personal gain.
“The lack of faith among people has created a breeding ground for criminals masquerading as prophets,” Inspector Ncube stated. “These individuals take advantage of vulnerable people, particularly women, for their own sexual gratification.”

Inspector Ncube’s remarks highlight a critical issue within religious communities. He urged church leaders to prioritize educating congregants about genuine spirituality, emphasizing, “We appeal to churches to preach the message of spiritual understanding. People need to know that God hears their prayers directly, without the need for intermediaries like these false prophets.”

The incident not only leaves a trail of personal trauma but also tarnishes the image of legitimate religious institutions. Authorities are investigating the crime, and Solomon is expected to face trial. This case underscores the need for increased vigilance within religious communities and highlights the importance of reporting any suspected abuse.
