Bulawayo-based artist King Troy is making a come back with his upcoming single, Ethengayo, set to be released in September. The track marks his return to the music scene after a hiatus driven by financial challenges.
King Troy started performing at the age of 16 and took a break from releasing music due to limited resources. “The reason I took a break is because of financial problems. My plan was to find a manager and a studio where I can record good music,” he explained. He highlighted the difficulties of navigating the industry alone, stating,”It’s hard to be a musician working alone, doing everything by yourself, show traveling, collaborations, airplay, and interviews.”
The success of other artists inspired him to reignite his passion. “I am seeing other kids shining and growing in the music industry. That’s my goal, too. It’s been a long time since I started this journey, but I still don’t have a music video. It puts me under pressure,” he said.
Ethengayo featuring Maqhuzu Mc produced by Mad_City Beats, and mastered by klyv Beats reflects the faily grind and the pursuit of financial stability.“The song is about hustling. Everyone needs money. I need money for video shoots, for travel, for music shows, we need money to buy everything,” he shared.
Since his last release, Impumelelo, king Troy has seen growing recognition. “People are starting to know me. I am getting booked for shows now and I am happy because I have struggled a lot to get here.” However creating Ethengayo was not without obstacles. “Studio session problems and writing were tough,” he admitted.
While Ethengayo is a standalone single, king Troy is already thinking ahead about an Afro-pop EP. “This isn’t the lead track, but I want to drop an EP soon,” he revealed.
