Bulawayo is gearing up for a week-long celebration of entrepreneurship and economic development. From August 9th to 16th, the city will host the Bulawayo Business Week under the theme “Igniting Global Business Opportunities.”
The event aims to unite residents, businesses, and government in a collective effort to revitalize the city’s economy and position it as a regional economic powerhouse.
Coinciding with Heroes Day, the organizers see the week as a fitting tribute to those who fought for Zimbabwe’s independence while also recognizing the role of today’s citizens in building a prosperous future. “Every citizen of Bulawayo is a hero of the economic revolution,” said one of the organizers, Khumbulani Malinga.
The week-long program includes a diverse range of activities, from a Day of Prayer for local businesses to a Kasi Business expo showcasing homegrown products. A highlight is a global networking event hosted by New York-based business facilitator Arthur Rosenfield. Business classes and workshops will also be offered to empower entrepreneurs.
To rally support, organizers are urging residents to participate in various ways. Social media is encouraged as a platform to showcase local businesses and attractions using the hashtags #BulawayoBusinessWeek, #BuyBulawayo, #SupportBulawayo, and #WeLoveBulawayo. The community is also called upon to support local artists, musicians, and sportspeople.
A key focus is on promoting local consumption. Residents are encouraged to buy Bulawayo-made products, from soap to mealie meal, to boost the local economy and create jobs. Entrepreneurs are invited to showcase their products and services during the week.
The organizers believe that by working together, Bulawayo can overcome its challenges and become a thriving economic hub. They are calling on corporates, government officials, and residents to come together and make the Bulawayo Business Week a resounding success.
