Hit-and-run accident leaves pedestrian critical

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – A serious road traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Khami Road and Westhand Road near Khami Cafe, leaving a female pedestrian critically injured.

At approximately 5:15 pm, the victim, in her mid-20s, was walking along Khami Road when she was struck by a white Ford Ranger pickup with registration number AAE 8118. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene.

“A pedestrian was hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident,” said Inspector Abednico Ncube, Bulawayo Provincial Police spokesperson.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including head trauma, a fractured left leg, left arm, and right thigh. She was rushed to Mpilo Hospital, where her condition remains critical.

“Drivers are warned against fleeing after accidents. They should stop and render assistance to the injured,” Inspector Ncube emphasized.

The police are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward.

“Motorists are urged to consider the safety of other road users, including pedestrians,” Inspector Ncube added.

The victim, who has no identification documents and is unable to speak, was wearing a white top, khaki trousers, and a pink cap. Authorities are seeking assistance from the public to identify her.

“Any member from the community who is missing a relative matching the given description should report to Traffic West for assistance,” Inspector Ncube said.

The incident highlights concerns about road safety and the importance of responsible driving.
