A 24-year-old Hwange man, Marshal Comfort Nyathi, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for breaking into a woman’s home and attempting to assault her. Nyathi appeared before Hwange Magistrate Fungai Dzimiri, facing charges of aggravated unlawful entry.
According to Prosecutor Wisdom Shava, the incident occurred on March 4, 2025, in the Lwendulu area. The complainant had locked her doors and windows before going to bed on the evening of March 3. However, Nyathi allegedly opened her bedroom window, placed a brick underneath it, and climbed into her room. At around 1:40 a.m., Nyathi began pulling down the complainant’s shorts. The woman, realizing the danger, calmly engaged him in conversation to avoid further harm. She asked Nyathi if he intended to rape her and questioned his actions.
Nyathi apologized and claimed to have romantic feelings for the woman, identifying himself as “Mike.” The complainant, sensing an opportunity, advised him that breaking into her home was not the right way to express his feelings. She then cleverly suggested turning on the lights to “identify him properly” in the future. Once the lights were on, the complainant captured a photo of Nyathi. Realizing he had been exposed, Nyathi attempted to flee through the window. The woman urged him not to leave that way, buying time to alert her mother. Together, they returned to the room, but Nyathi had already escaped through the window.
Nyathi was later arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful entry. In court, Magistrate Dzimiri sentenced him to 24 months in prison, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime. This case highlights the importance of vigilance and quick thinking in dangerous situations. The complainant’s calm demeanor and resourcefulness not only prevented further harm but also ensured the perpetrator was brought to justice.
