Bulawayo police are appealing for public assistance in tracking down two armed suspects responsible for a brutal robbery and sexual assault along Nyamandlovu Road. The violent attack, which took place on March 31, 2025, left a man seriously injured and his girlfriend traumatized.

A 37-year-old man from Pelandaba West, Bulawayo, and his 26-year-old girlfriend from Nketa 7 were traveling out of town when they stopped in Mbuyazwe along Nyamandlovu Road. While sitting near their vehicle, they were approached by two unknown men from the west, who accused the man of cattle theft.

The confrontation quickly turned violent. The suspects overpowered the man, engaging him in a struggle lasting approximately 10 minutes. One of the attackers drew a black pistol and struck him twice on the back of the head with its butt, while the other produced an okapi knife and stabbed him twice on each buttock.

The assailants force-marched the couple into a nearby bush, where they tied their hands and legs using cables and string. One suspect returned to the couple’s car, ransacking it and stealing four Samsung Galaxy smartphones and US$1,000 in cash. Meanwhile, the other attacker dragged the woman to a secluded spot and raped her.

After committing the crimes, the robbers fled the scene in the victims’ vehicle, abandoning them bound in the bush.

Despite their injuries, the couple managed to free themselves and walked approximately three kilometers toward Bulawayo. They were assisted by passing motorists who took them to the police to report the attack. The man sustained deep head wounds and stab injuries, while the total value of stolen property, including their vehicle, was estimated at US$4,000 and ZAR400,000.

As of now, no recoveries have been made.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the suspects or the stolen vehicle to report to the nearest police station. Residents are also advised to stay vigilant, report any suspicious or damaged vehicles in their vicinity, and avoid stopping in isolated areas whenever possible.

This incident highlights the increasing danger of secluded spots and serves as a warning for all motorists to exercise caution while traveling outside urban centers.
