MP Discent Bajila calls for stronger BEAM support and school management

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – Amidst reports that a section  of Zimbabwean writing classes are likely to miss their examination  due to unpaid BEAM funds, a member of Parliament for Emakhandeni- Luveve constituency  Discent Bajila is urging for enhanced capacitation of school management and Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) committees in local educational facilities.

This appeal comes after Luveve High School was highlighted as one of the  schools that have  failed to receive its BEAM funds due to unresolved documentation issues with the Ministry of Public Service.

“Effective management and coordination are crucial to ensure our schools receive necessary support. BEAM members in schools are supposed to be capacitated for the benefit of the schools.” emphasized Bajila during a budget consultation sensitization workshop hosted by ZIMCODD at Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo.

Launched in 2001, the BEAM program provides vital financial assistance to vulnerable children, covering school fees, uniforms, and educational expenses .

By prioritizing capacitation and streamlining processes, Zimbabwe can better support its most vulnerable students.
The budget consultation sensitization workshop was to ensure inclusive and participatory budgeting processes where participants were capacitated  on critical issues like the budget strategy plan ahead of budget consultations being rolled out in the country in preparation for  the 2025 budgeting  processes.
