ZTA Introduces Spot Fines for Non-Compliant Tourism Operators

Jonathan Sibanda

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has introduced spot fines for operators of tourism-designated facilities as part of efforts to maintain operating standards within the sector.

In a public notice issued this week, the authority said the penalties are intended to encourage compliance with regulatory requirements and improve standards across Zimbabwe’s tourism industry.

“In line with its commitment to maintaining high operating standards, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has introduced spot fines for operators of tourism designated facilities,” reads part of the notice.

According to the penalty schedule, operators found operating without a valid licence will be charged US$200 per month for a maximum period of two years.

Late submission of renewal and new licence applications will attract a US$100 penalty, while unapproved alterations to facilities will result in a US$500 fine.

The authority has also introduced US$100 penalties for failure to display regulatory licences in accessible locations, failure to submit statistical data to designated tourism officers, failure to meet minimum standards, and failure to maintain guest records in tourism facilities.

ZTA urged operators to ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements to avoid penalties.

“Compliance is not optional. Register, operate legally, and protect the integrity of Zimbabwe’s tourism sector,” the authority said.

The move comes as Zimbabwe continues efforts to strengthen standards and enhance the country’s reputation as a tourism destination.
