Hundreds of Bulawayo residents allocated residential stands have been given 30 days to explain why their properties should not be repossessed after the City Council identified them as non-compliant with the conditions of sale.

In a public notice issued by the Office of the Town Clerk, the City of Bulawayo said beneficiaries who have failed to develop their allocated residential stands are in breach of their agreements and risk losing their allocations unless they respond by 25 August 2026.

“The City of Bulawayo would like to notify all beneficiaries underlisted who have failed to develop and are in breach of the Conditions of Sale that Council intends to repossess the stands and re-allocate them to deserving beneficiaries on the Housing Waiting list as per Council Housing Policy,” the council said.

The notice affects 188 residential stands spread across four suburbs, comprising two stands in Luveve 4, 23 in Luveve 5, 51 in Pumula South and 112 in Mahatshula.

Council said affected beneficiaries must visit the Department of Housing and Community Services within the 30-day period to show cause why the planned repossessions should not proceed.

“Failure to respond within the stated period will result in Council proceeding with the cancellation of the allocation and repossession of the stands without further notice,” the City of Bulawayo warned.

The local authority said repossessed stands will be reallocated to deserving applicants on the city’s housing waiting list in line with the Council Housing Policy.

Affected residents have been advised to report to their respective district housing offices. Beneficiaries in Luveve 4 and Luveve 5 should visit the Luveve Housing Office, those in Pumula South should report to the Pumula Housing Office, while Mahatshula beneficiaries are required to visit the Tower Block Housing Office for assistance or enquiries.
