In a significant development for the residents of Lobengula Suburb, Lupane West Member of Parliament, Honourable Mxolisi Charles Sibanda, officially handed over a solarized borehole to the Lupane Local Board, marking a pivotal advancement in local water accessibility and community well being.
The borehole, funded through the Constituency Development Fund, has undergone a transformation from a manual system to a solar-powered one. This upgrade is expected to alleviate the challenges faced by residents, particularly women and children, who have historically struggled with the arduous task of drawing water from the manual borehole.
In his address during the handover ceremony, Honorable Sibanda emphasized the importance of this development. “Residents had a challenge in drawing water as the manual borehole was heavy for women and children,” he stated. “This solarization will not only ease their burden but also ensure a more sustainable water source for our community.”
The mayor of the Lupane Local Board, Councillor Thandolwenkosi Nyoni, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the broader impact on the community. “This is a great stride towards addressing the water challenges faced by the Lobengula Suburb residents,” he remarked. “Access to clean water is fundamental for our health and well-being, and this initiative is a testament to our commitment to improving living conditions in Lupane.”
Honourable Sibanda urged the community to take responsibility for the new borehole, encouraging residents to “safeguard it with jealous.” He emphasized that the success of such projects relies not only on funding and implementation but also on community stewardship.
The handover ceremony was attended by community members, local leaders, and stakeholders, all of whom expressed gratitude for the project. The solarized borehole is expected to significantly improve water access and quality for the residents of Lobengula Suburb, paving the way for a healthier and more sustainable future.
