Amagugu International Heritage Center Celebrates San Rock Art with Groundbreaking Exhibition

BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE – The Amagugu International Heritage Center, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe, is set to host a landmark exhibition celebrating the rich cultural legacy of San Rock Art in Matobo.
“We are excited to showcase the beauty and significance of San Rock Art, a vital part of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage,” said Allington Ndlovu, Director of the Amagugu International Heritage Center.
Scheduled for June 13 at the Bulawayo Art Gallery, the exhibition promises a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and community. It will feature seven large canvases painted by women from Matobo, along with a detailed catalogue, printed photographs, and granite slates adorned with paintings created by local community members.
Ndlovu highlighted the exhibition’s connection to the My Beautiful Home project, noting its success in reviving traditional artistic practices and encouraging local participation.
“The My Beautiful Home project has been instrumental in revitalizing traditional practices and fostering community engagement,” he said. “This exhibition is a significant step towards preserving San Rock Art for future generations.”
The event will also include a documentary screening and a guided tour, aimed at deepening public understanding of San Rock Art and its cultural importance.
“As the world grapples with the challenges of cultural preservation, the Amagugu International Heritage Center is leading the way in promoting community-driven initiatives that make a real difference,” added Ndlovu.
