A 32-year-old Hwange woman has been arraigned on attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend twice during a domestic dispute in Makwika Village earlier this month.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed that on August 18, 2025, Eunice Ngwenya allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, Mbekezeli Sibanda (32), following a quarrel over an inner garment.

According to the NPAZ, Ngwenya, Sibanda, and Ngwenya’s sister were walking together when a disagreement broke out. “The accused allegedly grabbed the garment and refused to return it despite the complainant’s requests,” the bulletin stated.

The authority said Ngwenya proceeded to her home in Makwika Village while the complaint waited outside before reappearing with the garment. Hidden inside was a kitchen knife. “As the complainant reached to take back his clothing, the accused is reported to have pulled out the knife and stabbed him twice, once on the right arm and once on the right side of his chest,” the NPAZ said.

Sibanda sustained serious bleeding injuries and, after failing to get immediate help, managed to reach his home where a friend assisted him to report the matter to the police and obtain medical attention. A medical report confirming his injuries will be presented in court.

Ngwenya was arrested on the same day and charged with attempted murder. She has since appeared in court and was remanded in custody to September 5, 2025, pending the finalisation of investigations.

In its statement, the NPAZ condemned the use of violence in domestic disputes. “Domestic violence and disputes must never be resolved through violence. Using weapons in relationships is criminal conduct that will be punished severely under the law. No quarrel, no disagreement justifies an attempt on another person’s life. Violence only destroys families and communities. Choose dialogue, not bloodshed.”
