On Saturday, 1 November 2025, the Marist Brothers High School community in Dete came together for its annual Awards Day — a celebration of academic achievement, discipline, and community spirit.
The event opened with a prayer and blessing from the Priest-in-Charge, Fr. Bonesia, setting a reflective and uplifting tone. Guests arrived early for the ceremony, which officially began at 11:30 a.m.
Before proceedings commenced, dignitaries including Hon. Molly Mkandla, Siphiwe Mapfuwa, Mathew Muleya, and Silus Maligo toured the newly constructed A-Level boys’ hostel. The visit showcased the School Development Committee’s (SDC) efforts to improve learning and living facilities, underscoring the institution’s commitment to continuous growth.
Hon. Advocate Jacob Mudenda, the day’s Guest of Honour, was represented by Hon. Molly Mkandla, who delivered a powerful keynote address. She reminded learners that education remains the foundation for unlocking life’s opportunities and urged them to steer clear of drug and substance abuse.
Outstanding learners were honoured for excellence in academics, debate, and public speaking, while teachers received recognition for their dedication to nurturing disciplined, well-rounded students.
Marist Brothers High School — established in 1972 and upgraded to high school status in 2015 — continues to uphold a proud legacy of shaping students who excel both intellectually and morally. A notable milestone in its history was the appointment of Sizimisele Chidewu as the school’s first female head in 2023. Her visionary leadership and passion for education have brought renewed energy and focus to the school’s mission.
Entertainment also took centre stage, with performances by the Marist Brothers drama group and dancers who creatively portrayed the dangers of drug abuse. Poetry presentations added depth and emotion to the programme, blending education with artistic expression.
The 2025 Awards Day reaffirmed Marist Brothers High School’s role as a beacon of excellence — a place where academic achievement, moral growth, and social responsibility thrive hand in hand. As the school looks ahead, its vision remains steadfast: to raise disciplined, principled, and visionary leaders who will make a lasting impact on society.
