A-47-year-old police officer was yesterday sentenced to 21 years in prison for the horrific rape and indecent assault of his own daughter, according to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe.
According to the statement, the officer, stationed at Support Unit, is said to have repeatedly abused his Grade 7 daughter at their home.
Allegations are that, the abuse began in August 2024 when the officer, returned home one night drunk, and forced himself on his daughter in their own home. He threatened her to not to report the matter. The abuse continued into the new year, with another incident in January 2025 where he fondled her and expressed further desires to have sex with her.
This time, the assault was interrupted by the arrival of the girl’s stepmother, but the officer again intimidated his daughter into silence. Thankfully, the young girl bravely confided in her friends and a teacher at school, who helped her report the abuse.
A medical examination confirmed what had happened, leading to the arrest and conviction of her father.
