Zimbabwe is expected to experience strong winds from Friday, 4 September, to Monday, 7 September 2026, with the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) issuing an advisory in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection.
The advisory warns of strong winds countrywide, with thunder and lightning expected in parts of Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, and Bulawayo Metropolitan.
“Strong winds will affect most areas from Friday evening, with a risk of lightning in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, and Bulawayo Metropolitan,” the advisory states.
The MSD said the conditions are linked to cool, moist south-easterly winds interacting with a mid-level atmospheric system.
The Department of Civil Protection warned that the strong winds could damage crops, roofing, trees, and structures.
The public has been urged to take precautions, including securing homes and protecting livestock and crops.
“The public, especially farmers and vulnerable groups, is advised to take precautions against strong winds, and lightning,” the advisory states.
