The City of Bulawayo is rolling out a mobile veterinary clinic programme to provide dog dipping and rabies vaccination services in Cowdray Park, Gwabalanda and Luveve.

According to a public notice issued by the City of Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube, the programme is being implemented “in partnership with a private veterinary doctor” and commenced on Monday. It is scheduled to end on Friday, 23 January 2026.

“The City of Bulawayo is conducting a mobile dog dipping and vaccination programme in Cowdray Park, Gwabalanda and Luveve suburbs,” said Dube

The programme began in Cowdray Park, where the mobile clinic operated on 16, 18 and 19 January, before moving to Gwabalanda on 19 and 20 January. It will conclude in Luveve between 21 and 23 January. Service points include TM Pick n Pay, Maplanka, Jotemba, Mudamburi, Chigumira and KoMpofu Shops, with operating hours running from 09:00 to 15:00 at all sites.

Dube reminded residents that rabies vaccination is compulsory under the law. Dog owners are required to vaccinate puppies once they reach three months of age and to ensure that vaccinations are kept up to date annually.

“Dog owners are required by law to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies disease at the age of three months, then re-vaccinated at the age of twelve months,” said Dube. “Thereafter, dog owners are required to have their dogs vaccinated against the rabies disease annually.”

Dube also warned that newly acquired dogs must be vaccinated without delay. “Any person who acquires a dog with neither tattoo marks on the ears nor a rabies vaccination certificate is required to vaccinate it within seven days of obtaining it, if it is three months old or more,” he said.

Failure to comply with vaccination requirements may result in penalties. “A fine may be imposed on dog owners who keep custody of unvaccinated dogs,” Dube cautioned.

The City of Bulawayo has encouraged residents to take advantage of the mobile vaccination programme as a convenient way to protect their dogs and help prevent the spread of rabies.

A fee of US$1 per dog will be charged for rabies vaccination, with an additional US$1 required for dog dipping
