Afro-pop artist Bhila, known for songs such as Wamuhle and Emaweni, has announced the release of a new single titled Jikela, scheduled to premiere on YouTube on 20 January 2026.
The song explores social themes centred on personal boundaries and the risks associated with involving third parties in private matters.
The single features Ndumiso “Ndue” Sibanda, an Afro-pop musician from Matabeleland whose storytelling approach adds depth and authenticity to the song. Together, the two artists use music as a mirror to society, addressing issues that continue to affect relationships and marriages today.
Sibanda was born and bred in Matabeleland and grew up in Old Luveve, Bulawayo, now popularly known as KoSamuriwo / #koSambhida. His musical journey began at a young age, nurtured in church where he sang in the choir while growing up. This background laid a strong foundation for his ability to blend melody with meaningful, life-inspired narratives, which complements Bhila’s expressive vocal delivery.
The inspiration behind Jikela comes from a shared realisation by the artists of how people can change, sometimes becoming completely different characters when entrusted with sensitive personal matters. This reality is especially evident in relationships and marriages, where many unions collapse not only due to internal conflicts, but also because of interference from third parties whose advice often causes division rather than healing.
Through Jikela, Bhila takes the lead in telling a story that highlights these challenges while also offering guidance. The song speaks directly to mature couples dating with the intention of marriage, as well as married couples striving to preserve their unions for a lifetime.
“I grew up under the teaching phrase ‘Umtshado ngowabavuthiweyo’,” Ndumiso explains, a saying that emphasises that marriage is for mature people. The song reinforces the belief that maturity in relationships is rooted in recognising God and His principles as the foundation of marriage. Couples are encouraged to seek God, communicate openly, and resolve most of their challenges among themselves.
While Jikela acknowledges that some circumstances may require guidance from others, it emphasises discernment in choosing whom to involve. The song suggests that advice can either help resolve challenges or contribute to further division. For this reason, couples are urged to limit unnecessary external interference and prioritise honest communication and mutual understanding.
With this release, Bhila and Sibanda contribute to ongoing conversations around relationships, trust, and social influence, using music as a platform to reflect common experiences within contemporary society.
