The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced that 2026 Lower Six classes will officially commence on Monday, February 2, 2026, according to a circular issued to all provincial education directors.
In a letter dated January 20, Acting Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education Mudyiwa Lameck directed all secondary schools across the country to adhere to the set commencement date and ensure that all stakeholders are adequately informed.
“The commencement date for the 2026 Lower Sixth classes is Monday, the 2nd of February 2026,” said Lameck. “Please ensure that all Heads of schools, teachers, parents and the pupils are advised of this date.”
The directive was circulated to Chief Directors of Provincial Education Services in all ten provinces, including Harare, Bulawayo, Midlands, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, East and West, Masvingo, and Matabeleland North and South.
The Ministry also clarified the payment structure for Lower Six fees, stating that fees will be charged on a pro-rata basis in line with the approved Term One fees for each school.
“The fees payable by the Lower Sixth pupils will be on a pro-rata basis, according to the approved Term One fees for each school,” Lameck said. He explained that the calculation will be based on “the number of days remaining in Term One 2026 multiplied by the total approved Term One fees, divided by the total number of days in Term One 2026.”
Lameck emphasized that compliance is mandatory, noting that “all schools are expected to commence Lower Six classes on the given date.”
