ZimParks temporarily restricts access to Victoria Falls Rainforest after elephant sighting

VICTORIA FALLS – The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has temporarily restricted access to the Victoria Falls Rainforest following reports of an elephant active in the area.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, ZimParks said the move was aimed at protecting visitors, staff and wildlife while reducing the risk of human-wildlife conflict.
“Access to the Victoria Falls Rainforest has been temporarily restricted following reports of an elephant active in the area,” ZimParks said in the notice.
The authority said the restriction is a precautionary measure and that its teams are closely monitoring the situation. It added that the public will be informed once it is safe to reopen the site.
Members of the public have been urged to stay out of the restricted area and avoid approaching the elephant or interfering with ongoing wildlife management operations.
“Members of the public are urged not to enter the restricted area, approach the elephant, or interfere with ongoing wildlife management efforts,” the authority said.
ZimParks also advised visitors and tour operators to comply with instructions issued by its personnel and other relevant authorities on site.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and the conservation of Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage, saying further updates will be communicated through its official channels.
