Highlanders Football Club Patron dies

Highlanders Football Club ‘s long-serving board member and club patron, Jimmy S. Ncube has died the club has announced.
In a statement issued by its Executive Committee, the club said Ncube “passed on peacefully at midnight yesterday” at United Bulawayo Hospitals.
Ncube was described as one of the institution’s longest-serving board members, having joined its leadership during its formative years.
“Mr. Ncube was the bedrock of this institution for decades,” the club said, crediting him with helping shape the organisation from its early beginnings into the institution it is today.
According to the club, Ncube’s contribution extended beyond his formal responsibilities on the board, with his strategic leadership helping guide the institution through periods of both success and difficulty.
“His strategic vision guided us through moments of great triumph as well as times of challenge, always serving as a steady anchor and a voice of reason,” the statement said.
The club also highlighted Ncube’s role in mentoring players, coaches and administrators over the years, describing him as “a mentor, a father figure, and a cherished friend to generations of players, coaches, and administrators.”
His involvement in youth development and community engagement was also recognised by the institution.
The club said his commitment to those areas helped keep it connected to its stated values of “integrity, unity, and excellence.”
Ncube’s presence was also felt away from formal club meetings, with the institution recalling his interactions with players and officials on match days.
“His presence in the boardroom and his warm, encouraging words on the sidelines will be desperately missed,” the club said.
The Executive Committee extended its condolences to the Ncube family, friends and others who knew him, while asking the public to respect the family’s privacy during the mourning period.
“Details regarding the memorial service and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course following consultations with the family,” the statement said.
The club concluded by paying tribute to Ncube and wishing him eternal peace.
