A Chegutu 29 year old man was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison on rape
charges by the Kadoma Regional Court, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe.
Allegations are that, on May 3, 2025, at approximately 8:00 am, the victim, a security guard in Chegutu, encountered the offender, who was trespassing on her work premises.
When the victim attempted to confront the offender, he aggressively charged at her, causing her to flee. The offender pursued and apprehended her, dragging her to a secluded corridor.
He then forced her to lie on his jacket, stating his intention to have sexual intercourse. The offender proceeded to strangle the victim and threatened to kill her if she resisted or called for help, coercing her into undressing.
He also confiscated her Samsung cellphone, hiding it in his pocket to prevent her from calling for assistance. The offender then undressed himself and raped the victim. After the act, he dressed and fled with her cellphone.
The victim then shouted for help, leading to the offender’s arrest by community members and the recovery of her cellphone.
