EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe Katrin Hagemann Dies

HARARE — European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Katrin Hagemann, has died, the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe has confirmed.
Hagemann died on Thursday, 3 September 2026. The EU Delegation described her passing as “sudden and unexpected” in a statement issued on Friday.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the sudden and unexpected passing of H.E. Ms Katrin Hagemann, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Zimbabwe, on 3 September 2026,” the EU Delegation said.
The delegation extended its condolences to Hagemann’s family, loved ones, colleagues and others mourning her death.
“In respect for the privacy of the family at this difficult time, there will be no further comments at this time,” the delegation said.
The circumstances surrounding her death have not been disclosed.
Hagemann had served as the EU’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe after presenting her credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in December 2025, formally beginning her diplomatic mission in the country.
During her tenure, she represented the EU in engagements covering Zimbabwe’s economic development, trade, governance and cooperation with the bloc.
The EU Delegation said a Book of Condolences will be opened to members of the public from Monday, 7 September to Thursday, 10 September 2026, between 10:00 and 16:00 daily, at the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.
“May she rest in peace,” the delegation said.
