LUPANE – Lubimbi High School has commissioned a new administration block funded entirely through the school’s internal resources and local contributions, marking a significant development in the rural institution’s infrastructure.

The new facility is expected to improve the school’s administrative operations and create additional space for classroom instruction as enrolment continues to grow.
The commissioning ceremony, held yesterday, attracted community leaders, parents, traditional leaders and government officials from across Matabeleland North province.

Binga Rural District Council (RDC) Chief Executive Officer Joshua Muzamba, who was scheduled to attend as guest of honour, was represented by Mr Million Mutanga, who delivered the keynote address on his behalf. Lupane West Member of Parliament Mxolisi Charles Sibanda also attended the event.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of Muzamba, Mutanga commended the school administration, the School Development Committee (SDC) and the local community for mobilising resources to finance the project.

“We must applaud Lubimbi High School for self-funding such an ambitious project that will permanently change the face and image of this institution,” Mutanga said while reading the CEO’s speech.

He said the school had demonstrated initiative by investing in its infrastructure rather than relying solely on central government intervention or donor assistance.

“In an era where many institutions wait for central government intervention or donor aid, Lubimbi High has shown remarkable initiative. Taking full responsibility for improving local educational infrastructure is the true essence of sustainable development,” he said, quoting from Muzamba’s speech.

Mutanga also highlighted the importance of proper administrative facilities in creating a conducive working environment for school leadership and visiting stakeholders. He said such facilities played a role in improving administrative efficiency and institutional governance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lupane West legislator Sibanda commended parents and guardians for their sacrifices towards their children’s education, noting that development in the education sector also depended on support from families.

He urged parents to prioritise their children’s education despite the economic challenges they faced, emphasising the importance of paying school fees consistently and on time.

“I strongly urge all parents to take care of their children’s education first by ensuring that school fees are paid consistently and on time,” Sibanda said.

“School fees are the backbone of project completion and quality education delivery, as demonstrated by the milestone we are celebrating today. Beyond financial support, parents must also take an active role in molding these young learners into future leaders through proper parenting, moral guidance, and discipline at home,” he said.

The legislator said that while infrastructure provided a foundation for learning, the overall performance of a school also depended on academic achievement and the development of learners’ character.

He challenged Lubimbi High School’s administration and teaching staff to match the community’s investment in infrastructure with improved academic results.

“To the administration and teaching staff, this modern facility should serve as a morale booster and a catalyst for high standards,” Sibanda said.

“Lubimbi staff must take note that they are expected to display the best performance in their duties. Upgraded facilities must reflect directly in better academic results and the overall performance of our students,” he added.

The commissioning comes as the government pursues its national development agenda under Vision 2030, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy. The project highlights the role that local resource mobilisation and community participation can play in improving school infrastructure.

Community members expressed pride in the development as the new administration block was officially opened during the ceremony.

Following the commissioning, school management confirmed that administrative operations would immediately move to the new facility. The relocation is expected to free up additional space for classroom instruction as the school accommodates growing enrolment.

Established in 1988, Lubimbi High School has served the local community for decades. The new administration block adds to the institution’s infrastructure as it continues its work in providing education to learners in the area.
