A group of women in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is defying stereotypes by venturing into the male-dominated cabin construction industry. The aptly named “Shining Stars” are not only making a living but also inspiring others with their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality.

Since their launch in April 2024, the Shining Stars have built six human cabins and four dog cabins, with most finding happy homes already. Their cabins are priced at $250 each, showcasing their ability to identify a niche market and cater to it successfully.

“We saw an opportunity to create something unique and valuable for our community,” shared Ashley Magwiro, leader of the Shining Stars. “Our goal is not just to make a living but also to inspire other women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.”

The Shining Stars source their materials from local suppliers, ensuring quality and affordability. This approach not only supports local businesses but also allows them to maintain a sustainable operation.

“We are thrilled to see the positive reception our cabins have received so far,” said Lungile Ncube, another founding member. “People appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each cabin.”

The Shining Stars’ story is a powerful testament to the potential for collaboration, innovation, and women’s empowerment to drive economic progress and create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
