African Sun Limited has announced that it will postpone a planned major refurbishment of Elephant Hills Resort, citing the need to support accommodation capacity ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

In a statement, the hospitality group confirmed that the refurbishment, which had originally been scheduled for November 2026, will now be delayed to ensure the resort remains fully operational during a period of expected high demand.

“African Sun has confirmed that it will defer its planned major refurbishment of the Elephant Hills Resort… in support of Zimbabwe’s role as co-host of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup,” the company said.

The resort, located in Victoria Falls, is expected to play a key role in accommodating visitors during the international tournament. African Sun emphasized that maintaining room availability is critical as global travel demand increases around the event.

“The resort will remain fully operational during 2026 and 2027 to ensure that Victoria Falls retains essential room capacity during this significant period of increased international demand,” the statement added.

Despite the delay, the company reiterated that the refurbishment project remains a priority and will proceed immediately after the tournament concludes. According to African Sun, the upgrade will focus on improving guest experience and strengthening the resort’s market position.

“The refurbishment programme remains a key priority, which will proceed immediately following the conclusion of the tournament, with continued focus on enhancing guest experience and strengthening the property’s positioning,” the company said.

African Sun also highlighted its intention to collaborate with industry stakeholders in preparation for the influx of international visitors.

“We look forward to working closely with our trade partners as we welcome fans and the world to Victoria Falls,” the statement concluded.

Zimbabwe is set to co-host the 2027 Cricket World Cup alongside regional partners, with tourism operators positioning themselves to capitalize on the expected surge in global visitors.
