Man jailed for impersonating brother to serve community service

A 31-year-old Dzivarasekwa man, Tinashe Kaseva, was yesterday sentenced to 15 months in prison for impersonating his brother to complete community service on his behalf, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said.

In March 2025, Tinashe arrived at Dzivarasekwa Police Station posing as his brother, Wilbert Kaseva, who had been ordered by the court to perform 210 hours of community service for a separate offence. Tinashe even presented Wilbert’s ID to convince officers.

The scheme unravelled in April when police investigating a fraud case involving Wilbert discovered the deception. Confronted, Tinashe admitted he was not his brother and had taken his place as a favour.

His actions landed him in jail—and now, instead of community service, he faces real prison time.
