Woman Accused of Abusing Step-Children

A 29-year-old Bulawayo woman appeared before the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court facing allegations of mistreating her stepchildren.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the woman allegedly physically harmed her five (5) year old stepson and three (3) year old stepdaughter on the 11th of June, resulting in injuries across their bodies from an unidentified object. The stepdaughter sustained bruises on her neck and body, as well as a broken hand, and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
“The children were removed from the accused person’s care by their father prior to filing a police report. The accused person has been remanded in custody until 4 July,” the NPAZ stated.
In response to the accusations, the legal representative of the accused woman issued a brief statement outside the courtroom, affirming, “My client maintains her innocence and anticipates the opportunity to present her perspective in court.”
The NPAZ underscored the seriousness of the situation, asserting their dedication to seeking justice for the young victims. “We are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation of this matter and safeguarding the rights of the children,” a representative of the NPAZ remarked.
