Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – A newly released “Digital 2025: Zimbabwe” report by DataReportal, a global digital research firm specializing in internet, social media, and mobile connectivity trends, reveals key insights into Zimbabwe’s evolving digital landscape.

According to the report, Zimbabwe has 6.45 million internet users, accounting for 38.4% of the population. While internet penetration continues to grow, challenges such as high data costs and infrastructure limitations hinder wider access.

The report highlights that 2.10 million Zimbabweans are active on social media, representing 12.5% of the population. Facebook remains the most popular platform, followed by WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram. Twitter (X) also has a notable presence, particularly among urban users engaging in political and social discussions. “Social media platforms continue to shape how Zimbabweans access news, interact with brands, and engage in civic discussions,” the report states.

Mobile connectivity is the dominant mode of internet access, with over 90% of users relying on mobile networks. However, only 65% of the population has access to 4G networks, and 5G adoption remains limited to major cities like Harare and Bulawayo. “As of 2025, mobile internet dominates digital access in Zimbabwe, but disparities in coverage and affordability remain challenges,” the report notes.

Despite the growth in digital adoption, issues such as high internet costs, infrastructure gaps, and regulatory concerns continue to impact accessibility. “Bridging Zimbabwe’s digital divide will require investment in infrastructure, regulatory reforms, and policies promoting affordable internet access,” the report concludes.
