A 20 year old man, Mxolisi Ncube, from Entumbane, Bulawayo, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police in connection with the murder of 25 year old Maqhawe Nkomo, following an argument over a past misunderstanding.

According to a statement released by the ZRP, Bulawayo Press and Public relations officer, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele  on the 5th of August Ncube approached Nkomo who was with two friends around 5.30pm at C turn junction, and accused him of previously assaulting him alongside others.

“The accused person started to accuse the deceased that he once assaulted him with his friends some time ago. The now deceased apologised and explained to the accused person that he did not assault him but only intervened to stop the fighting,” said Insp Msebele

Despite Nkomo’s explanation and apology, Ncube allegedly produced a flick knife, stabbed Nkomo on the right thigh, and fled the scene. komo‘s friends escorted him to a police station to report the incident.

Inspector Msebele said, “the now deceased was then assisted by his friends who escorted him to the police to make a report. The police summoned an ambulance crew who, upon arrival, pronounced him dead.”

A follow-up of the accused person was made, leading to his arrest at his home and recovery of the weapon used.

Inspector Msebele urged the public to avoid violence, stating, “We appeal to members of the public to desist from use of violence in solving disputes to avoid loss of life. We also warn members of the public against carrying dangerous weapons.”
