Tsholotsho Residents have called for the rehabilitation of the Tsholotsho-Bulawayo road, citing its importance in revitalizing economic activities in the district.
The appeal was made during the 2026 national budget consultation meeting, held yesterday at the Tsholotsho Rural District Council boardroom.
Councilor of Ward 18, David Mpala, emphasized the need for improved road networks to connect Tsholotsho to Bulawayo, Lupane, and other areas. “The state of our roads is a major concern,” the Councilor said. “We need better roads to facilitate the movement of goods and people and to attract investors to our area.”
William Ndlovu, a local farmer, echoed the sentiments of the Cllr and highlighted the challenges posed by the poor road network for the farming industry. “The road is in a deplorable state, making it difficult for us to transport our produce to markets,” he said. “We urge the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of this road to unlock the economic potential of our area.”
The Tsholotsho-Bulawayo road serves as a critical link between the district and Bulawayo, the country’s second-largest city. The road is used by farmers, traders, and tourists, and its rehabilitation is seen as essential for boosting economic activities in the area.
“We are pleading with the government to address the road network challenges facing our community,” said Nomsa Moyo, another attendee. “We believe that with better roads, we can unlock the potential of our area and improve the lives of our people.”
The call for road rehabilitation aligns with broader appeals for the government to prioritize infrastructure development in rural areas. Other concerns raised by attendees included tackling drug and substance abuse, building vocational centres, and promoting skills development.
The Tsholotsho community expressed hope that their appeal would be addressed in the 2026 budget, with steps taken to improve the road network and support local economic growth.
